Here’s The One Condition M. Night Shyamalan Would Do A Marvel Or DC Film

Would M. Night Shyamalan do a Marvel or DC Film? Here’s what the director had to say his conditions were.

M. Night Shyamalan’s new film Glass, the third in his trilogy of films that started with 2000’s Unbreakable and 2016’s Split, is unique in terms of superhero films, in that these characters did not originate in comic books but rather in Shyamalan’s own mind. With this trilogy, Shyamalan set out to deconstruct our idea of superheroes by placing people with enhanced abilities, and has mostly succeeded in this niche genre. It could only be a matter of time before Marvel Studios or DC Films decides to take advantage of Shyamalan’s fascination with the genre for one of their own superhero blockbusters.

Shyamalan recently stated that earlier on his career he had passed on offers from both Marvel and DC. Still, there’s no saying he wouldn’t be up for working with either. When asked by EW if he would be up for working on a property for either, Shyamalan had this to say:

“I mean, you never know, you never know. There’s been light conversations in the past about these things. But it would have to be in a way that would allow for very weird, big weirdness to be okay.”

I mean weirdness has never been wrong for superhero movies. Just look at Marvel with Doctor Strange, Thor: Ragnarok, and the Guardians of the Galaxy films.

When told about some of these properties, Shyamalan responded:

“Yeah, absolutely,”“I think [things] are changing. Finding a fresh take on the comic book genre is a very powerful approach now to these movies, and I think one what everybody is looking for.”

Only time will tell if Shyamalan decides to lend his talents to one of the big two. There are probably dozens of characters from either side of the aisle who would benefit from the director’s vision.

Which characters do you think Shyamalan would be a good fit for in the Marvel or DC universe? Leave your thoughts below!!

Here’s the synopsis for Glass:

From Unbreakable, Bruce Willis returns as David Dunn as does Samuel L. Jackson as Elijah Price, known also by his pseudonym Mr. Glass. Joining from Split are James McAvoy, reprising his role as Kevin Wendell Crumb and the multiple identities who reside within, and Anya Taylor-Joy as Casey Cooke, the only captive to survive an encounter with The Beast.

Following the conclusion of Split, Glass finds Dunn pursuing Crumb’s superhuman figure of The Beast in a series of escalating encounters, while the shadowy presence of Price emerges as an orchestrator who holds secrets critical to both men.

Written and directed by M Night Shyamalan, Glass stars James McAvoy, Bruce Willis, Samuel L. Jackson, Sarah Paulson, Anya Taylor-Joy, Spencer Treat Clark, and Charlayne Woodard.

Glass is currently in theaters.
