Mads Mikkelsen Comments On Replacing Johnny Depp In ‘Fantastic Beasts 3’

Mads Mikkelsen responds to the reports that he has been tapped as the next Grindlewald.

Mads Mikkelsen recently addressed the reports that he is replacing Johnny Deep as Gellert Grindelwald in the next Fantastic Beasts film.

The Harry Potter franchise is no stranger to replacing major characters in the middle of the series. For instance, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban notably saw Michael Gambon succeed the late Richard Harris as Dumbledore. The series also removed Jamie Waylett, who played Crabbe, for growing cannabis. Now the Fantastic Beasts franchise will feature a new Grindelwald, with Johnny Depp stepping down and Mads Mikkelsen reportedly taking over the role.

While speaking with IGN, Mads Mikkelsen commented on the reports that he will be replacing Johnny Depp to portray Gellert Grindelwald in the upcoming Fantastic Beasts film that is currently in production overseas:

“Oh, that is on the rumor basis as we speak. So I know as much as you do from the newspapers. So I’m waiting for that phone call.”
