The third Mission: Impossible film introduced Maggie Q to the film series in the role of Zhen Lei, one of the team members who joined Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt in his task to take down arms dealer Owen Davian. While Zhen Lei played a key role in the success of the team’s mission, Maggie Q was unable to reprise the role in subsequent Mission: Impossible sequels due to her commitment to The CW’s Nikita.
However, with the seventh and eighth Mission: Impossible films set to feature some returning cast members, some fans have wondered in Maggie Q could return to the franchise one day. During an interview with ComicBookMovie.com, Maggie Q noted that while her commitment to Nikita prevented her from returning to the Mission: Impossible film series in the past, she doe not see why it wouldn’t be possible now that the series has long been canceled:
“You know, it’s funny because they asked me to come back after Mission: Impossible III, but I was contracted on television so I was so happy and touched, but it was not something I was able to do legally. I couldn’t leave my show for it which was really sad. People asked me at the time, ‘When are you coming back?’ and I said, ‘I can’t!’ They asked and I couldn’t do it. I don’t see why it couldn’t now be a possibility in the future, but we shall see…”
