‘Star Wars’: Major Snoke Theory Denied By Andy Serkis

There have been many fan theories about Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but one particularly compelling theory revolves around one of the film’s primary antagonists. Supreme Leader Snoke, a character never technically seen in person (he appears chiefly in holograms), was rumored to be Darth Plagueis.

Plagueis was a Sith Lord who mentored Emperor Palpatine and was said to know how to cheat death. This would make him a prime candidate to make an appearance in the sequel trilogy, and the suspicion appeared to have been supported by the use of similar music cues in both the prequels (when Palpatine is describing Plagueis to Anakin) and The Force Awakens (the theme for Snoke).

Andy Serkis, who voices Snoke in the latest film, denies that there is any truth to this theory whatsoever. He is a new character who knows about the history of the Sith, so there is still some chance that he understands the secrets of Plagueis and his powers. But his character is (allegedly) completely new to the franchise, and Serkis seems to believe that this is one of the greater aspects of the villain.

“Supreme Leader Snoke is quite an enigmatic character, and strangely vulnerable at the same time as being quite powerful. Obviously he has a huge agenda. He has suffered a lot of damage. As I said, there is a strange vulnerability to him, which belies his true agenda, I suppose.”

This notion of a true agenda may have some fans wondering if Snoke is still hiding a secret or two. Perhaps we’ll learn more by the time Star Wars: Episode VIII hits theaters.
