Marc Guggenheim Teases Arkham Asylum Appearance In ‘Elseworlds’

Arkham Asylum has seen its fair share of adaptations outside of comic books. Of course, there are the Batman Arkham games, the films, and you can currently see Arkham Asylum in Gotham on Fox. But within the Arrowverse on the DC CW, where we’ve yet to see anyone from the Bat-family appear, not so much. That’s soon to change with the upcoming Elseworlds crossover between The Flash, Arrow, and Supergirl, with Ruby Rose set to make her grand debut as Batwoman giving us our first look at Gotham City in this shared universe.

Last night, Marc Guggenheim, one of the Executive Producers behind the DCTV on The CW Network, took to Twitter to share a photo from the Elseworlds event with a cell door reading “Guggenheim, M.” and the number 345, along with the caption “I’ve encouraged a lot of Easter Eggs in this year’s crossover, but this might be going too far. #Arkham ⁦@JamesBamford⁩.” Now if you go back to Batman #345, there’s no Marc Guggenheim. As far as I can tell, anyway. And no telling just who might behind that cell door, but it’s a nice tease of Arkham Asylum’s upcoming appearance.

Since so much of Arrow borrowed from the Nolan Batman films, combined with there already being a current iteration of Arkham Asylum just one universe over in the world of Gotham, it will be interesting to see how this universe’s Gotham City and Arkham Asylum differentiate from what’s been done before, but also through paying homage to what’s been seen, in the same way that Supergirl has many nods to the Christopher Reeve Superman films.

The Arrowverse “Elseworlds” crossover starts on Sunday, December 9 with The Flash, continues on December 10 with Arrow, and concludes with Supergirl on December 11. The special will air on the CW.
