‘Birds Of Prey’ Test Screenings May Already Have Audiences & WB Execs Divided

While it wasn’t too long ago that we heard audiences who saw an early cut of DC’s Birds of Prey were praising the new film which stars Margot Robbie, it seems the studio isn’t too happy with the project.

Last month, reports emerged that DC’s Birds of Prey had already begun test screening an early cut of the film after it wrapped in April. While the first reaction apparently raved about the girl-gang film which features Margot Robbie reprising her role as Harley Quinn, Screen Rant’s Stephen M. Colbert tweeted that the internal screening saw the opposite reaction from executives. It appears Warner Bros. could have yet another divisive DC film on its hands, but we’ll have to wait and see how things turn out when the film arrives in theaters next year.

Birds of Prey features the female superhero team coming together with Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn and taking on Gotham crime lord Black Mask (Ewan McGregor). The girl-gang teams up to protect Cassandra Cain after she comes across a diamond which belongs to Black Mask.

DC Comics’ Birds of Prey are an international crimefighting team featuring heroines such as Oracle (Barbara Gordon), Black Canary (Dinah Laurel Lance) and the Huntress (Helena Bertinelli). The comic book team’s current lineup consists of Black Canary, Huntress, and Lady Blackhawk, along with Hawk and Dove. As for Cassandra Cain, she’s the daughter of David Cain and Lady Shiva, raised to become one of the world’s greatest assassins before meeting Bruce Wayne and taking up the mantle of Batgirl in the comics.

Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) sees the return of Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, and introduces Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Jurnee Smollett-Bell to the DC Extended Universe as Huntress and Black Canary, respectively.

Cathy Yan (Dead Pigs) has directed the film from a script written by Bumblebee writer Christina Hodson, who has also written the studio’s Batgirl film and is also being eyed to write The Flash movie. Birds of Prey is being produced by Sue Kroll under her Kroll & Co Entertainment banner along with Clubhouse Pictures’ Bryan Unkeless, and Margot Robbie.
