Fresh off the Twitter presses, JoBlo.com’s own Editor-in-Chief, Paul Shirey, shared that his sources at Warner Bros. have confirmed with him that absolutely no rating has yet been given to Birds of Prey. In the tweet, Shirey made things short and easy, saying:
“From WB via e-mail: There is NO confirmed rating on Birds of Prey. Have a nice day.”

It makes sense on a more practical level that the Birds of Prey film does not yet have a confirmed rating. After all, the project is just beginning principal photography, as is suggested by the official camera test that was recently released online. We will not get an official MPAA rating until the whole theatrical cut of Birds of Prey screens before the rating body. That said, the film may have a targeted rating in mind that the studio just does not want to share with us at this point.
If you will recall, Harley Quinn herself, Margot Robbie, shared with us not that long ago the film’s actual title and it is a mouthful: Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn). Margot Robbie had posted a picture of the script with the full title along with her character’s now iconic lipstick kiss, which she even employed for today’s mini-teaser.
What do you make of all this? Does this come as news to you or were you expecting the film not yet to have an official rating? And if you could choose, which rating would you give the Margot Robbie Birds of Prey film? Hit us up with your thoughts in the comments below!
Full details on the Birds of Prey plot are currently unknown, though the film is said to center on Huntress, Black Canary, and Harley Quinn joining forces to protect Cassandra Cain when she comes into the possession of a diamond belonging to a criminal kingpin known as Black Mask.
Directed by Cathy Yan from a script penned by Bumblebee writer Christina Hodson, Birds of Prey stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Huntress, Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary, Ella Jay Basco as Cassandra Cain, Rosie Perez as Renee Montoya, Chris Messina as Victor Zsasz, Ewan, McGregor as Black Mask, and Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. Ali Wong, Robert Catrini, and Michael Masini have also been cast in undisclosed roles.
Birds of Prey will be released in theaters on February 7, 2020.
