Fans got a their first look at Birds of Prey and the return of Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn last month. The first Birds of Prey trailer showed off Cathy Yan’s unique take that got her the directing job. The upcoming DC film appears to be using Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn as a way to introduce audiences to the Birds of Prey team.
This is no surprise given Margot Robbie’s stardom and the success of her Harley Quinn from Suicide Squad. With that being said, The film will not be the first live-action version of the Birds of Prey. The ill-fated Birds of Prey television series aired back in 2002 with another version of the team appearing in the Arrowverse. The Birds of Prey film hits theaters in less than five months and marketing is starting to ramp up. Warner Bros. has now released the first TV spot for Birds of Prey featuring Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn teaming up with Black Canary, Huntress, and Renee Montoya. Full details on the Birds of Prey plot are currently unknown, though the film is said to center on Huntress, Black Canary, and Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn joining forces to protect Cassandra Cain when she comes into the possession of a diamond belonging to a criminal kingpin known as Black Mask.
Directed by Cathy Yan from a script penned by Bumblebee writer Christina Hodson, Warner Bros.’ Birds of Prey stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Huntress, Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary, Ella Jay Basco as Cassandra Cain, Rosie Perez as Renee Montoya, Chris Messina as Victor Zsasz, Ewan, McGregor as Black Mask, and Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. Ali Wong, Robert Catrini, and Michael Masini have also been cast in undisclosed roles.
Birds of Prey opens in theaters on February 7, 2020.
