During Star Wars Celebration Orlando, Mark Hamill discusses why he thinks Han and Luke not meeting in The Force Awakens was a "missed opportunity".
In case you’re unfamiliar with the plot of The Force Awakens, Han meets his demise at the hands of his son, Kylo Ren a.k.a Ben Solo on Starkiller Base with the only onlookers being Rey and Finn, who are both new additions to the franchise. Despite being the crux of the original trilogy, Hamill’s Luke Skywalker only had a few silent moments in the film, which was considered a disappointment by many.
When asked by Fandango’s Erik Davis if he was disappointed that the original trio didn’t get a reunion of sorts, Hamill discussed the “missed opportunity” in an interview during this past weekend’s Star Wars Celebration Orlando. You can check out the clip below.
“When I was reading it, I thought if Leia is trying to mentally contact me and she is unsuccessful, she’ll rush to his aid and get into some dire situation, and that’s when I show up…I save her life and then we rush to Han and then we are in the same position that Rey and Finn and Chewie are; too late to save him, but witnesses it because it would carry so much emotional resonance into the next film for us, his wife, his best friend to witness, instead of two characters that known him for what? 20 minutes?”
