Mark Hamill Gets His ‘Return Of The Jedi’ Lightsaber Back

It has been over 34 years since we last saw Mark Hamill Yielding his lightsaber. Today he's reunited with the original prop from Return of the Jedi

It has been almost 34 years ago since we last saw Mark Hamill as Jedi master Luke Skywalker yielding his lightsaber in Return of the Jedi. It is certainly something fans are hoping to see in the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VIII, but today we got to see the next best thing, which was Mark Hamill reuniting with the actual prop used in the last movie of the original trilogy.

In an interview with Comic-Con HQ, the actor was presented with the original prop he used while filming Return of the Jedi back on 1983 and he was clearly surprised, more so considering how long it has been since he used it.

“Ok, now this is pretty cool. I hadn’t seen this thing in years. It was movie screen material [the blade] because that reflects the light source back hundreds of times the intensity.”

You can check out the interview below.

Interestingly enough, this seems to be the same piece of prop that Alec Guinness used in A New Hope, the very first movie of the saga. Hamill also gave a quick explanation of the mechanism behind the mythical weapon. An elegant weapon for a more civilized age indeed.

And if you’re curious about the way the original lightsabers worked you can also check out the video below.
