Marvel Studios EP Believes X-Men Name Is ‘Outdated’

Marvel Studios EVP of Production Victoria Alonso shared in a recent interview she thinks the X-Men name is “outdated.”

Dark Phoenix is set to be one of the last X-Men films under the Fox regime before Marvel Studios gets their hands on the characters. Recently, a Dark Phoenix clip was released with Jennifer Lawrence’s Mystique saying she thinks the mutant team should be called the X-Women. While promoting Captain Marvel‘s home release, Marvel Studios EVP of Production Victoria Alonso told Nuke the Fridge that she thinks the X-Men name might need an update:

“I don’t know where the future is going. It’s funny that people call it the X-Men. There’s a lot of female superheroes in that X-Men group, so I think it’s outdated.”

Do you think the X-Men name needs an update? What would you change it to? Sound off in the comments below!

Dark Phoenix stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Tye Sheridan, Sophie Turner, Alexandra Shipp, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Evan Peters, and Jessica Chastain. Here’s the official synopsis:

“In DARK PHOENIX, the X-MEN face their most formidable and powerful foe: one of their own, Jean Grey. During a rescue mission in space, Jean is nearly killed when she is hit by a mysterious cosmic force. Once she returns home, this force not only makes her infinitely more powerful, but far more unstable. Wrestling with this entity inside her, Jean unleashes her powers in ways she can neither comprehend nor contain. With Jean spiraling out of control, and hurting the ones she loves most, she begins to unravel the very fabric that holds the X-Men together. Now, with this family falling apart, they must find a way to unite — not only to save Jean’s soul, but to save our very planet from aliens who wish to weaponize this force and rule the galaxy.”

Dark Phoenix is set to hit theaters on June 7, 2019.
