Marvel Animation VP Hints At Future Marvel Animated/Live-Action Crossover

When you think of Marvel on TV, you usually think of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D or Agent Carter, or one of the amazing Netflix shows like Daredevil, Jessica Jones or the upcoming Luke Cage. These are shows set in a smaller pocket of the larger MCU, and thus get a lot more attention than Marvel’s other series.

What other series you might ask? Well, Marvel actually has a pretty good line of animated TV shows based on their properties. I’m not talking about the classic Marvel cartoons we all grew up with, like X-Men or Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends. Many people forget that Marvel has a current lineup of successful animated shows.

Ultimate Spider-Man, Avengers Assemble, and Guardians of the Galaxy are all current- and in my opinion, enjoyable- Marvel animated shows. What they share in common is the fact that they were all influenced by the Marvel cinematic universe in some shape or form. Avengers Assemble is based on the Avengers movie, and Guardians of the Galaxy is obviously based on the movie of the same name. Meanwhile, Ultimate Spider-Man has featured MCU fan favorite Agent Phil Coulson as a main character. Clark Gregg, who portrayed Coulson in the films, actually returns to voice the character in the cartoon.

These shows obviously aren’t a part of the MCU, but Ultimate Spider-Man did feature a crossover event with an MCU series, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents Jemma Simmons and Leopold Fitz from AoS appeared on Ultimate Spider-Man in animated form. This crossover wasn’t big or anything, but fans of both shows enjoyed it.

Marvel Animation VP Stephen Wacker was recently asked by a fan on Tumblr if any more Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D crossovers were being planned. Wacker’s reply effectively shot down any AoS/Marvel animated crossovers in the near future, but also opened the door for a ton of speculation:

“Not at the moment. But there is another live-action crossover coming…”

Wacker’s words essentially mean that some sort of animated/live-action crossover is coming, but Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D won’t be the series crossing over. This has fans wondering which one of Marvel’s live-action shows (or films, as he didn’t specify on that front) will be crossing over with an animated series.

Personally, I’m hoping to see something like Daredevil meets Spider-Man or something. Sure, this Daredevil is a little R-rated, but you could easily tone him down for a single crossover episode that likely won’t be canon- just a fun piece of fan service for Marvel fans. Which live-action show/movie and animated show do you want to see meet in a crossover episode? Sound off in the comments below!
