‘Marvel’s Avengers’ Seemingly Distances Itself From Sony’s ‘Spider-Man’ PS4

Fans everywhere will undoubtedly be disappointed as a developer from Crystal Dynamics has seemingly distanced the company’s upcoming game, Marvel’s Avengers from Sony’s Spider-Man for the PS4.

While speaking to IGN during a Twitch stream, a developer from Crystal Dynamics was asked about potential connections between the company’s upcoming video game, Marvel’s Avengers and Sony’s Spider-Man for the PS4. IGN’s Max Scoville pointed out that Taskmaster, who was an antagonist in Sony’s Spider-Man for the PS4, would also be in the upcoming Marvel’s Avengers game. He asked if the two were the same character and if gamers could expect some kind of crossover between the franchise. The Crystal Dynamics developer apparently shot this down by saying that this was their version of Taskmaster:

“This is our world. This is the Avenger’s world. For us, we look at this and say, again, we have an amazing set of heroes, we have an amazing world, but this is an original story for the Avengers.”

Last year’s Spider-Man for the PS4 was, of course, a big hit for Sony and developer Insomniac Games. Selling 13.2 million copies worldwide, Sony’s Ps4 Spider-Man game was Insomniac Games’ best selling game to date and feature a few Avengers easter eggs and references. So it does seem a bit odd that Crystal Dynamics is seemingly distancing Marvel’s Avengers from the Sony PS4 Spider-Man game.

What do you all make of this news? Are you sad to hear that the upcoming Marvel’s Avengers game may not have anything to do with Sony’s Spider-Man for the Ps4? Based on what you saw in the E3 trailer, is that for the best? Let us know what you think in the comments below!

Here is a plot synopsis for Marvel’s Avengers from Crystal Dynamics:

“Marvel’s Avengers begins at A-Day, where Captain America, Iron Man, the Hulk, Black Widow, and Thor are unveiling a hi-tech Avengers Headquarters in San Francisco — including the reveal of their own helicarrier powered by an experimental energy source. The celebration turns deadly when a catastrophic accident results in massive devastation. Blamed for the tragedy, the Avengers disband. Five years later, with all Super Heroes outlawed and the world in peril, the only hope is to reassemble Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.”

Marvel’s Avengers is currently set to be released on May 15th of 2020.
