During a recent interview with Cinema Blend, Marvel Studio President Kevin Feige talked about the influence James Gunn had on Avengers: Infinity War and the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy film and stated that they were still using the script:
His influence was Guardians. It was Guardians. It was his input on Guardians and the Avengers films, as you’ve seen in Infinity War, and on the Guardians 3 script, which we’re still using. So you’ll see that influence. I think online, sort of the notion of ‘architect across multiple cosmic things’ was slightly blown out of proportion.
From the look of things, they still want James Gunn’s script even if they no longer want him as the face of Guardians of the Galaxy.
James Gunn was, of course, very publically fired from Marvel after a series of old Tweets reemerged of him making a series of controversial jokes. It later turned out that the so-called outraged was perpetrated by alt-right Twitter groups that wanted to see the director defamed. Disney, however, did not relent and stood by their decision. But from the look of things, his influence will still be felt in the upcoming film.
