Rosario Dawson Could Be Finished With Marvel’s Netflix Universe

Rosario Dawson could be finished in the Netflix corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Dawson has been a mainstay of the Marvel Netflix shows, appearing as the Night Nurse herself, Claire Temple, since they first hit the streaming service, appearing in every series including Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and The Defenders with the exception of The Punisher and the second season of Iron Fist. But Dawson could be on her way out, in fact, her final scene in the second season of Marvel’s Luke Cage may have been her last.

Speaking on a panel at the 2018 Tribeca TV fest last weekend, Dawson detailed the scene which featured Luke and Claire breaking up as she revealed she actually helped write the script:

“I felt really grateful because Cheo Hodari Coker was the showrunner, and it was kind of looking like, at least for that season, who knows if I’ll come back again? This was looking like it was going to be a big final scene for Claire, and it was really as a culmination of three years and being on five different shows.”

Dawson went on to explain how she evolved the scene once she got involved with redeveloping it:

“When the scene was first written, to be honest, it was a little bit more written on his side and his storyline and that kind of stuff. And I approached Cheo and had the audacity of adding some lines and rewriting some stuff and asked him if that could work.”

This isn’t the first time Dawson’s exit from the Marvel franchise has come up as the actress previously made headlines when she first teased that she may not return in May at MCM Comic Con in London. Dawson added how important it was for the scene to also represent Claire’s side, explaining that “out of the instinct of knowing that after five different shows this was probably going to be at least for now a kind of goodbye for Claire. I wanted it to really honor this journey I’ve had with her, and what she’s been and what she’s stood for, and what she means to a lot of people.”

The Netflix corner of the MCU is set to continue next month with the highly-anticipated third season of Marvel’s Daredevil.

Daredevil Season 3 stars Charlie Cox, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, Jay Ali, Wilson Bethel, Joanne Whalley, and Vincent D’Onofrio.

Daredevil Season 3 hits Netflix October 19, 2018.
