Marvel Studios Considered Having No Marketing For ‘Avengers: Endgame’

It seems that the unconventional marketing campaign for Avengers: Endgame was almost even more unconventional Marvel Studios considered having no marketing for the film at all.

During a recent interview with Empire Magazine, Avengers: Endgame co-director Joe Russo revealed that at one point, Marvel considered having no marketing for the film. He went on to explain that for them the idea was to keep the majority of the narrative a secret and recapture the power that Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back had with its limited marketing:

We did. We talked about all scales of marketing. The thing that’s most important to us is that we preserve the surprise of the narrative. When I was a kid and saw The Empire Strikes Back at 11 a.m. on the day it opened, and sat there until 10 p.m. watching it back to back to back, it so profoundly moved me because I didn’t know a damn thing about the story I was going to watch. We’re trying to replicate that experience.

From the look of things, Marvel may have given us less then what we already have.

What do you make of these comments? Would you have like to see a major blockbuster film like Avengers: Endgame be released with no marketing at all? Should Marvel Studios have pushed it a bit more? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
