Marvel’s She-Hulk Series Lands ‘Rick And Morty’ Scribe As Writer

The Hollywood Reporter has learned Rick and Morty scribe Jessica Gao has been tapped as the lead writer for Marvel Studios’ She-Hulk series.

At Disney’s D23 Expo, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige announced She-Hulk as one of the many series’ the company is developing for the upcoming Disney+ streaming service. Now, Emmy award-winning Rick and Morty writer Jessica Gao has been tapped to develop She-Hulk for Marvel and as serve as the lead writer on the Disney Plus series.

Jessica Gao served as an executive editor on six episodes of Rick and Morty, with Emmy Award being given for writing the acclaimed episode titled “Pickle Rick.” In addition to her work on Rick and Morty, Jessica Goa has penned episodes of The Mighty B!, Robot Chicken, and Silicon Valley.

In the comics, She-Hulk is the alter-ego of Jennifer Walters, a private attorney and the cousin of Bruce Banner. After being shot, Jennifer Walters receives a blood transfusion from Bruce that transforms her into the gamma-powered She-Hulk. However, unlike most incarnations of Bruce Banner’s Hulk, Jennifer Walters retains her sharp wit and emotional control in her She-Hulk form, which later becomes permanent.

Marvel Studios’ upcoming slate of films includes Black Widow, The Eternals, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and Thor: Love and Thunder. In addition to the aforementioned feature films, Marvel Studios is developing several shows for Disney Plus, including The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, WandaVision, Loki, What If…?, Hawkeye, Ms. Marvel, Moon Knight, and She-Hulk.
