Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige Debuts ‘The Eternals’ Footage At CCXP

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige showcased early footage from The Eternals at CCXP this afternoon.

While none of the footage that Kevin Feige released specifically for the CCXP presentation will make its way online, a footage description of the sizzle reel for Marvel Studios’ The Eternals has appeared, hinting at the plot of the film (which is set thousands of years before most of the other films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe).

Per The Wrap, the footage revealed by Kevin Feige at CCXP gave a vague hint at the direction that The Eternals will go in, and it sounds like the Marvel Studios film is going to take this property in an interesting direction. Read the description below:

“The clip, which [Kevin Feige] said contained ‘raw footage pulled out of camera,’ begins with a shot of Richard Madden’s Ikaris walking into the frame. This was followed by a group shot of the entire team, then a close up on Gemma Chan’s Sersi, and a fade in on the film’s logo. Another shot of the cast in their costumes came next, then in succession a shot of Angelina Jolie’s Thena, Salma Hayek’s Ajax on horseback, Kumail Nanjiani’s Kingo dancing, Thena kicking ass, and finally, dialogue by Hayek: ‘These people have changed all of us. We must protect them.'”

Kevin Feige is keeping a lid on the project, but it seems like the CCXP footage revealed may just hint that Marvel Studios is developing one of their most unique films ever.

Plot details for The Eternals remain under wraps, however, the story reportedly features a love story between Sersi and the Black Knight. Created by Jack Kirby in 1976, the Eternals are a fictional evolutionary offshoot of humanity created by the Celestials over a million years ago. The beings who possess superpowers and longer lifespans were the result of genetic experiments that led to the creation of fellow divergent races such as the Deviants (hideous monsters of human origin who are ancestors to the Atlanteans), and Latents (the predecessors to the Mutants and Mutates that make up many of Marvel’s superheroes).

The cast of The Eternals includes Gemma Chan as Sersi, Kit Harington as the Black Knight, Richard Madden as Ikaris, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Lauren Ridloff as Makkari, Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, Salma Hayek as Ajak, Lia McHugh as Sprite, Don Lee as Gilgamesh, Angelina Jolie as Thena, and Barry Keoghan as Druig. Reportedly, there are some key roles that have yet to be revealed to the public, leaving room for Dan Stevens to possibly have a part. Marvel Studios has tapped Chloe Zhao to direct the project from a script written by Matthew and Ryan Firpo.

The Eternals is set to be released on November 6, 2020.
