Marvel Studios Reveals When ‘Shang-Chi’ Begins Filming

Marvel Studios is riding high after the massive release of Avengers: Endgame, but there’s no slowing down in sight. The studio is preparing for the next wave of new heroes to make their big screen debuts, such as The Eternals, starring Angelina Jolie, that shoots later this year and a film based on Shang-Chi: Master Of Kung Fu.

Marvel Studios is the biggest bread-winner this weekend with the release of the climactic finale to the MCU’s Infinity Saga. But, the MCU will keep trucking on forward with the next slate of superhero films set in their ever-growing cinematic universe. Spider-Man: Far From Home is hitting theaters later this summer, but after that, we only have vague ideas of what movies come next and when.

According to The Hollywood ReporterThe Eternals is set to film later this year, with the Shang-Chi film, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, to shoot following it. Black Widow’s solo film is set to release in 2020 and James Gunn’s return for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will also shoot next year once the director has finished his work on DC’s The Suicide Squad. Since Shang-Chi is potentially filming at the end of this year and is a much smaller character compared to the characters in The Eternals, we could potentially see Shang-Chi released before Marvel Studios’ The Eternals.

Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige has said that after the release of Spider-Man: Far From Home, there will be a full release schedule for the films going forward, giving us a much more solid look at the future of the MCU. This will also give us the release dates and titles of the Doctor Strange and Black Panther sequels that are on actors Chadwick Boseman and Benedict Cumberbatch’s contracts.
