Marvel Studios President Says Developing X-Men Films Could Happen In 2019

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige recently opened up about the development of new X-Men films.

The Disney/Fox deal has been public for over a year and fans have been patiently waiting for the Fox-owned Marvel characters to finally enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The idea of the X-Men joining the MCU specifically has been a huge topic of conversation ever since the news about the deal became public.

Feige recently spoke with Variety‘s Playback Podcast and shared some news regarding Marvel Studios’ development of future X-Men movies. Although the upcoming slate of MCU films has been kept mostly under wraps, Feige revealed that Marvel Studios’ new take on the iconic mutant team may be coming to fruition sooner than some fans might have originally though. This is what Feige had to say about the current status of new X-Men films.

“We’ve been told it’s looking very, very good and could happen in the first six months of next year.”

That’s right X-Men fans, Feige’s team will hopefully be hard at work bringing the X-Men back to the big screen in the first half of next year. Feige also had this to say about the rights for the characters returning to Marvel.

“The notion of the characters coming back is great. It’s nice when a company that created all these characters can have access to all those characters. It’s unusual not to. But in terms of actually thinking about it and actually planning things, we haven’t started that yet.”

Although the franchise is back at Marvel Studios, there are still two X-Men films slated for release next year. Dark Phoenix, the sequel to 2016’s X-Men: Apocalypse, debuts in June and The New Mutants arrives in August.

We’ll be sure to keep you updated on all news regarding the X-Men as soon as more information becomes available. Who would you like to see direct a new X-Men film? Which era would you like to see it set in? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
