Marvel TV Head Can’t Talk About Why Daredevil & Luke Cage Were Canceled

Executive Vice President for Marvel Television Jeff Loeb has revealed he can’t talk about the reasons for shows like Daredevil or Luke Cage being canceled last fall.

Speaking at the Television Critics Association’s 2019 winter tour, Loeb commented on the state of the current line-up of Marvel TV shows that will keep going despite the FOX/Disney merger like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Cloak and Dagger and Runaways, and also spoke briefly about what happened with the Netflix series such as Daredevil, Luke Cage or Iron Fist. Loeb stated that Netflix were the ones that ultimately pulled the plug on the series’:

“In the Netflix situations, that was a situation where the network made a decision and we had nothing to say about it.”

Whether or not Marvel and Netflix had any sort of disagreement over new terms of cooperation is anyone’s guess at this moment. While Netflix released an official statement in regards to Daredevil, citing the desire to take the show out on a high note as the reason for its sudden cancelation, Loeb revealed he’s not actually able to comment on the reasons for all three of the shows being canceled:

“These are shows that have very different reasons [for ending], most of which I’m not at liberty to talk about, nor should anyone really care at the end of day.”

The truth is that these three shows got canceled and everyone’s waiting for Netflix to pull the plug on The Punisher and Jessica Jones sometime soon. Loeb also spoke about the fact that these Netflix shared franchises can be revived at any moment if certain conditions are met, and he wouldn’t be surprised if it ultimately happens. It’s safe to say that we fans enjoyed most of the Netflix Marvel series, and would definitely like a return of the full Defenders line-up if Marvel were to bet on them once again.

Luke Cage stars Mike Colter as the titular character, Simone Missick as Misty Knight, Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple, Alfre Woodard as Mariah Dillard, Theo Rossi as Shades Alvarez and Mustafa Shakir as John McIver.

Daredevil stars Charlie Cox, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, Joanne Whalley, Jay Ali, Wilson Bethel, Stephen Rider, and Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk.

The last Marvel show which aired a new season on Netflix was season 2 of Marvel’s The Punisher which stars Jon Bernthal, Ben Barnes, Amber Rose Revah, Jason R. Moore, Josh Stewart, Floriana Lima, Giorgia Whigham, Corbin Bernsen, Annette O’Toole, and Deborah Ann Woll. Here’s the synopsis for it:

Former marine-turned-vigilante Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) has been living a quiet life on the road until he suddenly becomes embroiled in the attempted murder of a young girl (Giorgia Whigham). As he is drawn into the mystery surrounding her and those in pursuit of the information she holds, Castle attracts a new target on his back as new and old enemies force him to confront whether he should accept his destiny and embrace a life as “The Punisher.

Marvel’s The Punisher season two is now streaming on Netflix.
