While promoting The Martian, Jason Bourne actor revealed that he would be interested in playing Daredevil on the big screen.
“I think he approached it the right way, which is, ‘Can I make a great superhero movie?’ rather than, ‘Do I want to play a superhero?’ I’d consider it if the right thing came along.”
While he does seem open to the idea with the right character, there is one for sure that he’d sign on to play. However, there is a bit of a catch to it and he also revealed why he’d backed out of playing a superhero last time around.
“For us it was always ‘Daredevil’ — that’s the comic we read when we were kids. But when that one came along (in 2003) I chickened out, because I couldn’t tell. I hadn’t seen the director (Mark Steven Johnson’s) work and I didn’t know. So I just said, ‘No.’ Ben was like, ‘I gotta do it.’ And the movie ended up doing very well, even though I don’t think Ben was ultimately very proud of it.”
What would it take for Matt Damon to sign on for that role? Well, the project would require a certain director. Damon continued:
“If Chris Nolan came up to me and said, ‘I want to do Daredevil,’ I would be in.”
Currently that seems very unlikely to ever happen due to numerous factors. But even if we never see him suit up in a superhero film, as he shifts his future priorities to the directing side of things. Matt Damon said that he would definitely be into directing an upcoming superhero film. “Just putting that out there,” he said, laughing.
