Director Matt Reeves has not yet filmed a single shot of The Batman, as the movie starts filming early next year. Opting to not release any concept art or fitting photos of Robert Pattinson as the Batman himself at CCXP 2019, Matt Reeves instead recorded a message explaining that the movie is coming along well and that fans will have a lot to look forward to at Warner Bros.’s dedicated CCXP 2020 panel.
While Omelete relayed the video message from Matt Reeves to the internet, the video has been taken down. Nonetheless, you can see what they had to write about the brief announcement below:
As it stands, Matt Reeves will have plenty of involvement with the Batman franchise going forward, given that he is expected to direct a full trilogy of films, so there should be little issue with him having a greater convention presence going forward.
Full plot details for The Batman are currently under wraps, though the film will center around a younger Bruce Wayne and features a Rogues’ Gallery of villains that includes Catwoman, The Penguin, and The Riddler. The Matt Reeves film will follow Batman during his formative years as Gotham City’s protector and will make use of the Dark Knight’s detective skills to a greater extent than previous DC films. It is expected to be the first chapter in a new trilogy with Robert Pattinson as Batman.
Directed by Matt Reeves from a script he co-wrote with Mattson Tomlin, The Batman stars Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as the Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner James Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Jayme Lawson as Bella, and Peter Sarsgaard as Wasserman. Recently, Colin Farrell was reportedly in talks to play the Penguin.
The Batman will be released in theaters on June 25, 2021.
