Matt Reeves’ ‘The Batman’ Enlists ‘Rogue One’ Cinematographer Greig Fraser

The Hollywood Reporter has revealed Matt Reeves’ The Batman has enlisted Rogue One: A Star Wars Story cinematographer Greig Fraser.

Recent reports claimed oscar winner Robert Richardson was on board to shoot The Batman, however, Richardson denied this himself. Fraser, whose other credits include Vice and Zero Dark Thirty has joined the project according to the trade. Filming is expected to begin early next year.

The Batman will reunite Fraser with Matt Reeves, having worked together previously on 2010’s Let Me In. Fraser released an official statement today, sharing his excitement to not only work with Matt Reeves again but to also have the chance to put his stamp on Batman’s history on the big screen:

“It’s great to be working with Matt again. The Batman franchise is iconic and it’s a privilege to now be able to visualize it in my own way. Especially with the cumulative creative potential of all the talent and technicians we have in front of and behind the camera.”

Plot details for The Batman are still under wraps. Rumors once pointed to an early version of the script featuring Ben Affleck bookending the film as his current Batman while the film introduced a younger version of the Dark Knight. But with Ben Affleck officially retired from the role, Robert Pattinson has officially replaced the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League actor in the role.

While details are slim, The Batman director Matt Reeves has confirmed that his film is not based on Frank Miller’s Year One comic and will emphasize Batman as the world’s greatest detective more than previous films have in the past.

Matt Reeves’ The Batman is one of the many projects currently being developed by Warner Bros. and DC Films. The list also includes The Flash standalone film, Green Lantern Corps, Black Adam, Cyborg, Supergirl, New GodsNightwing, and DC’s Birds of Prey spin-off Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) with Margot Robbie.

The DCEU continues with Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) on February 7, 2020, followed by Wonder Woman 1984 on June 5, 2020. A standalone Joker film set outside of the DC Films universe starring Joaquin Phoenix as the Clown Prince of Crime is also set to hit theaters October 4, 2019.

The Batman opens in theaters on June 25, 2021. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for the latest news on The Batman and the future of the DC Extended Universe.
