Sony is moving pretty fast to develop more Spider-Man spin-off’s after the success of Venom. The film that’s next to shoot is the Jared Leto led Morbius. The film is officially in motion with the announcement that Doctor Who and Star Wars: Episode IX star, Matt Smith will join the cast.
According to Variety, Matt Smith will join Jared Leto in the upcoming Spider-Man spin-off Morbius. Matt Smith is joining the film in an undisclosed, but major role. Not much is known about the film at this time.
Sony’s developing Universe of Marvel Characters is set to continue with a film centered on Spider-Man anti-hero Morbius the Living Vampire, with Academy Award winner Jared Leto playing the lead role. The project is said the begin production in February and filming is expected to conclude in May under the working title “Plasma”.
The film will be based on the Marvel comic Morbius the Living Vampire featuring the popular anti-hero who first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #101. In the comics, the famed scientist Dr. Michael Morbius attempted to cure himself of a rare blood disease and consequently developed a form of vampirism instead.
Directed Daniel Espinosa from a script written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, Morbius stars Jared Leto as the lead anti-hero. Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are producing the project with Lucas Foster. Palak Patel will oversee for Sony.
