While speaking recently with Entertainment Weekly about the upcoming Men in Black film, F. Gary Gray explained that the upcoming film isn’t meant to replace Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones, but rather build out the world and add to the mythology of the Men In Black franchise:
“We went into the project knowing the deep affection we and the fans have for Will and Tommy. We’re not replacing them, simply adding to their team.”
Okay, while that’s not directly talking about potential cameo appearances, let’s dig further into this discussion. Later on in the article, while there’s no quote or attribution to F. Gary Gray as far as cameos go, the author did have this to say:
“As for cameos by certain Earth-born alumni from past installments? Don’t hold your breath — but okay, maybe go ahead and put it on standby.”
Again, that’s not an attribution to F. Gary Gray or even paraphrasing as much as it speculation on the author’s part. But the fact that it’s not an outright “No” could hint that maybe, just maybe, there’s a small possibility that you could get cameos from prior stars in the Men In Black franchise to appear in the next installment. Again, speculation on the author’s part, but the writer does say put holding your breath on standby, so we shall see.
But what do you think? Would you want to see the likes of Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones, or other past actors from the franchise make a cameo appearance in Men In Black: International? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
