While fans are hoping for a true Man of Steel sequel in the new era of DC films, the studio might be going in another direction. Henry Cavill is reportedly done playing the man of steel as Warner Bros. move forward with a Supergirl film. The studio has also thought about Michael B Jordan taking on the iconic role. Of course, Michael B Jordan is no stranger to the comic book genre, having appeared in Fantastic Four and Black Panther. However, Michael B Jordan is one of the hottest names in Hollywood right now and is a common name thrown around by studios execs. Michael B Jordan recently appeared on Oprah Winfrey’s SuperSoul Conversation, where she asked the actor about the Superman rumors. Michael B Jordan flexed his comic book knowledge, revealing he would rather play Calvin Ellis than Clark Kent:
“It’s tough. I hate being a business man and understanding both sides of the situation. There is a huge upside to it. But being under that microscope, being picked apart and being compared to so many different versions of Superman. I would rather do something original. It’s cool…I’ll be Calvin Ellis. There is another Superman from earth 23… I’m a comic book guy. Calvin Ellis is earth 23’s Superman. There’s a another version of Superman in another dimension that is black already in the comic books… that exists. I think the comic book purists would accept that more then me being Clark Kent from Kansas.”

Supergirl is one of the many projects being developed over at Warner Bros. and DC. The studio has tasked Oren Uziel to pen the script. Meanwhile, Superman still is rumored to cameo in Shazam!, but it’s unclear if it will be Henry Cavill. Here is the synopsis for DC’s next film:
We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Strong).
Directed by David F. Sandberg, DC Shazam! stars Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Mark Strong, Jack Dylan Grazer, Grace Fulton, Faithe Herman, Ian Chen, Jovan Armand, Cooper Andrews, Marta Milans, and Ron Cephas.
Shazam! will be released in theaters on April 5, 2019.
