Michael Bay Explains Why He Has No Interest In Doing Superhero Movies

Transformers: The Last Knight director Michael Bay explains that he's not particularly interested in the prospect of taking the helm of a superhero movie.

Michael Bay told an interviewer at CinemaCon that in spite of Hollywood’s continued interest in superhero movies, he doesn’t plan to ever direct one, and that he’s perfectly happy to continue doing what he’s already been doing.

From the sound of things, a big reason he’s not interested in doing superhero movies is because he already considers the Transformers franchise a long series of those, albeit with greater creative freedom.

This is my superhero film, you know what I am saying. There is only so much you can do with people in capes and suits. You can only do so much; with Transformers, you can do a lot.

Given that Bay has a reputation of being very demanding of his actors when it comes to filming action sequences, the reason he might be so intent on focusing on giant CGI robots is because those are easier to figure out in post-production.

Bay’s latest film, Transformers: The Last Knight, will be released on June 23, 2017. The film’s cast includes Mark Wahlberg, Stanley Tucci, Isabela Moner, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, John Turturro, Laura Haddock, Anthony Hopkins, and Santiago Cabrera. The vocal talents of Peter Cullen, John Goodman, John DiMaggio, and Mark Ryan will be featured.
