‘The LEGO Batman Movie’ Star Michael Cera Hasn’t Heard Anything About A Sequel

Michael Cera is open to voicing Robin again but revealed that he hasn’t heard anything about a sequel to The LEGO Batman Movie.

The LEGO Batman Movie is one of the highest rated Batman movies to ever come out theatrically, second to The Dark Knight on RottenTomatoes with a 90%. Some fans would even go as far as to say that The LEGO Batman Movie is the best Batman movie to ever come out in theaters. While director Chris McKay announced that he would be returning for a sequel scheduled for 2022, Universal now has the rights to the LEGO movie franchise.

Since Batman is a Warner Bros. property, it’s seems unlikely that they would let Universal make a sequel to The LEGO Batman Movie. In a recent interview with ComicBook.com, Michael Cera had this to say about a potential sequel:

“I’d be so interested in it. I haven’t heard anything about it, but I would love that. It was such a great process working on that, and I’m such a fan of those LEGO movies in general. I was so excited to be in that, because I really loved the first LEGO movie, so I would jump at that, but I haven’t heard anything. Who knows, now that everything, every project going forward will probably be an animated one, so maybe it will happen.”

Here is the synopsis for the film:

In the irreverent spirit of fun that made “The LEGO® Movie” a worldwide phenomenon, the self-described leading man of that ensemble – LEGO Batman (Will Arnett) – stars in his own big-screen adventure. But there are big changes brewing in Gotham, and if he wants to save the city from The Joker’s (Zach Galifianakis) hostile takeover, Batman may have to drop the lone vigilante thing, try to work with others and maybe, just maybe, learn to lighten up

Directed by Chris McKay, the movie stars Will Arnett, Zach Galifianakis, Michael Cera, Rosario Dawson, and Ralph Fiennes.

The LEGO Batman Movie is now available on Blu-ray, DVD, and digitally.
