Michael Keaton Talks The Moment He Realized ‘Batman Forever’ Would Suck

While Michael Keaton is entering the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the villainous Vulture in Spider-Man: Homecoming, the actor will always be remembered for his portrayal of the DC hero Batman. Keaton portrayed the Caped Crusader in Tim Burton’s two installments of the beloved character before Joel Schumacher took over the franchise with Batman Forever.

The third and fourth installment, Batman & Robin, became some of the character’s weakest portrayal which eventually killed the franchise. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Michael Keaton chatted about not doing the third one because of the script. When talking about it, Keaton admitted when he realized that this film was problematic.

“It sucked! The script never was good. I couldn’t understand why he wanted to do what he wanted to do. I hung on for many meetings. I knew it was in trouble when he [Joel Schumacher] said, ‘Why does everything have to be so dark?’

The cast includes Tom Holland, Michael Keaton, Zendaya, Donald Glover, Jacob Batalon, Laura Harrier, Tony Revolori, Tyne Daly and Bokeem Woodbine, as well as Robert Downey Jr., Marisa Tomei, Jon Favreau, Michael Chernus, Kenneth Choi, Hannibal Buress, Martin Starr, Michael Barbieri, Angourie Rice and Abraham Attah.

Spider-Man: Homecoming opens on July 7, 2017.
