Michael Shannon recently sat down with the Gold Coast Bulletin and discussed if he’d reprise his role as Zod for the planned Supergirl movie, explaining that he hadn’t heard about the rumors that he was set to return to the character. The actorsaid that he isn’t sure he could do the stunts required to play the super villain with his Kryptonian powers. He jokingly said that he’s “older and creakier” than he was when he originally took on the role in 2013’s Man of Steel.
“Wow, that’s interesting. I swear to God, I am not kidding — you are breaking this news to me. I will have to look into that. Zod again? I don’t know — it’s been a while. I am a little older and creakier now — I’m not sure I could do all the moves.”
While many DC fans are divided over Man of Steel and Zack Snyder’s vision for the universe, Michael Shannon explained that he loved working with the director on the film, and implied that he’d like to see him work on the Supergirl movie. Given that some fans suggested that the open pod from the Kryptonian ship in Man of Steel could have been Supergirl’s, it would be interesting to see Zack Snyder follow up the plot-point from his previous film. However, Warner Bros. and DC have since shifted the direction of the DCEU, so Zack Snyder’s return might not fit their narrative. Take a look at what Michael Shannon said about the director and Supergirl below.
“Also, I have to say in complete and utter seriousness that I just loved working with Zack Snyder and that was a big part of it for me. I don’t know who’s making this Supergirl movie but I really treasure that experience with Zack. He’s a hell of a guy.”
