‘Inhumans’ Alum Mike Moh Is Down To Play Marvel’s Shang-Chi

Inhumans alum Mike Moh expressed an interest in playing Shang-Chi in the comic book hero’s upcoming film from Marvel Studios.

Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Endgame is set to conclude the first decade of Marvel Cinematic Universe stories, collectively named The Infinity Saga, and their plans moving forward include a feature film centered on Shang-Chi. Since the project was first reported to be in the works, fans have proposed potential candidates for the role of Shang-Chi and Inhumans alum Mike Moh recently expressed an interest in playing the character by responding to a fan’s social media post about such a possibility by using the “holding hands” emoji, suggesting he’s hoping for the chance to portray Marvel Studios’ first lead Asian superhero.

While Mike Moh previously portrayed Triton on ABC’s short-lived Inhumans series, it would not be the first time an actor has portrayed two different characters in the MCU, with the most prominent example probably being Alfre Woodard, who played Miriam Sharpe in Captain America: Civil War and Mariah Dillard in Luke Cage. It may also be worth noting that Mike Moh’s Inhumans role required him to wear a lot of makeup and prosthetics that made him unrecognizable.

Introduced in Special Marvel Edition #15 in December 1973, Shang-Chi is a skilled martial artist who was raised in an isolated compound located in China and trained by his father Fu Manchu, a Chinese crimelord and immortal sorcerer who repeatedly attempted to conquer the world. When Shang-Chi was finally allowed to venture into the outside world to do his father’s bidding, he learned about his father’s evil ways and faked his own death before embarking on a mission to take down Fu Manchu’s criminal empire.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton from a script written by Dave Callaham, Shang-Chi will reportedly modernize the source material in order to avoid the character stereotypes of the time.
