Milla Jovovich Weighs In On News Of ‘Resident Evil’ Reboot

Milla Jovovich, the star of the 'Resident Evil' franchise, has weighed in on the news of a series reboot and the intentions behind such an action.

Earlier today, news of a Resident Evil reboot hit the web. Shortly thereafter, Aquaman director James Wan was announced to be producing the reboot. Now, the face of the Resident Evil franchise, Milla Jovovich, has weighed in on the news.

Speaking to Comicbook.com, Jovovich, who played Alice in all six films of the series thus far, was first shocked by the news. “They’ve announced a reboot?” she asked. “Okay, well good luck with that.”

After some thought, Jovovich expanded on the idea of a series reboot and the intentions behind such an action.

“I think a lot of people with these franchises kind of put the cart before the horse,” Jovovich said. “There’s a danger to that. They’ve been wanting to reboot Resident Evil for a long time, and listen: I love the Resident Evil world. I think it’s a great property, I would do it if I was a producer. I think what made Resident Evil so special is that the people involved really loved what they’re doing and really were fans of the game. I would suggest that you find people that have that same passion for the property before you talk about reboots. I think if you get into this kind of genre, people are very sensitive to fakes. There’s some real fans in the sci-fi/action/horror world, and they’re not idiots. They can smell when something is done because people love it and when something is done just to monetize an opportunity.”

Based on the Capcom video game series, the original six entries in the film franchise starred Jovovich as the lead protagonist, Alice, and managed to become the highest-grossing film series based on a video game, earning a total of $1.2 billion at the global box office.

The involvement of Paul W.S. Anderson, writer of all six and director of four Resident Evil films still remains unknown.

Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for more details about the Resident Evil reboot as they become available.
