Milo Ventimiglia Says Warner Bros. Told Him He’s Too Old To Play Batman

This is Us star Milo Ventimiglia was told he was too old to play Batman by Warner Bros.

In May, Warner Bros. and director Matt Reeves officially cast Robert Pattinson as a young Caped Crusader in The Batman. However, 42-year-old actor Milo Ventimiglia seems to have been one of the actors who threw his hat into the ring for the role before Warner Bros. ultimately decided to cast Robert Pattinson as the new live-action Dark Knight.

During a conversation on Variety and iHeart’s podcast The Big Ticket, Milo Ventimiglia explained that while he could see himself in the cape and cowl, Warner Bros. informed him he was too old for their new take on Batman:

“Warner Brothers didn’t. They said, ‘Ventimiglia, you’re too old.’

Despite this, Milo Ventimiglia said he is fine with the decision to go with a younger Batman:

“It’s okay. It doesn’t matter. By the way, I’m kind of busy.”

Plot details for The Batman are currently under wraps, though the film will center around a younger Bruce Wayne and features a Rogues’ Gallery of villains that reportedly includes Catwoman. The Matt Reeves film will follow Batman during his formative years as Gotham City’s protector and will make use of the Dark Knight’s detective skills to a greater extent than previous DC films. It is expected to be the first chapter in a new trilogy with Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader.

Matt Reeves’ The Batman is one of the many projects currently being developed by Warner Bros. and DC. These projects include The Flash standalone film, Green Lantern Corps, Black Adam, Cyborg, Supergirl, New Gods, and Nightwing.

The Batman will be released in theaters on June 25, 2021.
