‘Mulan’: Ming-Na Wen Might Have A Role In Disney Remake

Disney has been on a roll as of late. Between their wildly successful films in the Marvel franchise, as well as the Star Wars franchise; they also are producing billion-dollar hits by remaking their own animated films. Just last week, their latest film, Beauty & The Beast crossed $1 billion worldwide. One of the most discussed – announced – live-action remakes on the horizon, is none other than Mulan, a remake of the 1998 film of the same name. The film has been heavily discussed as many believe Disney are stupid enough to not cast an actress of Asian descent in the titular role.

In a new interview with Entertainment Tonight, original Mulan actress – and current star of Agents of SHIELD – Ming-Na Wen revealed a few details about the upcoming project and her involvement in it. Wen stated:

“Wow! I wish I could say that it needs it. But I’m very excited that they want to do a live-action because they’ve done so amazingly with all of the movies — from Maleficent, to Beauty and the Beast, to Cinderella. I’m really looking forward to the live-action. I would love to have a part in it in some way. We’ll see — knock on wood! I know the fans really want it and love it. And some of them even go, ‘Well, why don’t you just play Mulan?’ And I’m like, ‘Yeah, if it’s Mulan: The Later Years.”

While it is not yet known who Wen will play, it should not come as a surprise for the actress to land a part in the new movie. Niki Caro will helm the live-action reboot, which looks to be another huge hit for Disney.
