‘Mission: Impossible’ Director Still Waiting On Call To Make Superman Movie

Christopher McQuarrie has still yet to receive a call from Warner Bros. to step behind the camera for a Superman film.

While promoting his latest effort, Mission: Impossible – Fallout, McQuarrie previously expressed interested in stepping on board for a Superman film after he revealed he had discussed Man of Steel sequel ideas with Superman actor Henry Cavill while the two were working together on the big budget blockbuster. When asked by screenwriter Zack Stentz whether or not he could write a draft for the director, McQuarrie teased that he would call him, should the studio ever move forward with McQuarrie directing. Stentz himself is no stranger to comic book properties as he has written on several projects such as X-Men: First Class, Thor, and The CW’s hit series The Flash.

Whether or not Cavill will return to the role of Superman is currently in question as Cavill’s representatives failed to reach an agreement with Warner Bros. for a cameo in the upcoming Shazam! film which resulted in the actor exiting negotiations to reprise his role as the Last Son of Krypton in future DC films.

Warner Bros. is reportedly considering Michael B. Jordan as its next Superman. The studio is also developing a standalone Supergirl film which will feature an origin story for Superman’s cousin Kara Zor El. Oren Uziel (22 Jump Street) is writing the script.
