Rumor: ‘Ms. Marvel’ Disney+ Series Begins Filming September 2020

Following the D23 announcement, a new report reveals when the Ms. Marvel Disney Plus series might begin filming.

Ms. Marvel’s inclusion in the MCU has been rumored and teased for some time. Then, Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige finally announced that she will be getting her own series on Disney Plus. Ms. Marvel is expected to make the jump from the Disney Plus series to the big screen like Hawkeye‘s Kate Bishop.

Ms. Marvel was announced a month ago and development appears to still be in the early stages. Discussing Film.com is now reporting that Ms. Marvel is expected to begin filming September 2020. This means the actress who is cast as Ms. Marvel may be announced at next year’s San Diego Comic-Con, if not sooner. As we await more news on Ms. Marvel, Bisha K. Ali is set to serve as showrunner on the upcoming Disney Plus series.

In the comics, Kamala Khan is a Pakistani-American from Jersey City, New Jersey who discovers that she has Inhuman genes and uses her shapeshifting abilities to protect her local community. Kamala Khan takes on the Ms. Marvel mantle after her idol, Carol Danvers, becomes Captain Marvel.

Created by editors Sana Amanat and Stephen Wacker, writer G. Willow Wilson, and artists Adrian Alphona and Jamie McKelvie, Kamala Khan debuted in Captain Marvel #14 before becoming the lead character in the solo Ms. Marvel comic series. Kamala Khan became Marvel’s first Muslim character to headline her own comic series and the first issue of Ms. Marvel won the 2015 Hugo Award for Best Graphic Story.

In addition to the Ms. Marvel series, Marvel Studios’ line-up of projects for Disney Plus includes The Falcon and The Winter SoldierWandaVisionLokiHawkeye, Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk, Moon Knight, and an animated What If? show.

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier is currently set to be first of these Marvel Studios series’ to debut on Disney Plus. Set after the events of Avengers: Endgame, the series is rumored to center on Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes as the former finds himself facing resistance from the United States government and its opposition to him taking on the Captain America mantle.
