Marvel Studios Developing ‘Ms. Marvel’ Series For Disney Plus

It’s official: Ms. Marvel is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Marvel Studios is developing a Disney Plus series focused on the fan-favorite superheroine.

Marvel Studios’ post-Avengers: Endgame plans for its cinematic universe include a slate of miniseries’ for the Disney Plus streaming service. At Disney’s D23 Expo, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige revealed that a Ms. Marvel series is in the works for Disney Plus with Kamala Khan as the lead character. According to THR, British writer Bisha K. Ali is writing the series and will serve as showrunner.

In the comics, Kamala Khan is a Pakistani-American from Jersey City, New Jersey who discovers that she has Inhuman genes and uses her shapeshifting abilities to protect her local community. Kamala Khan takes on the Ms. Marvel mantle after her idol, Carol Danvers, becomes Captain Marvel.

Created by editors Sana Amanat and Stephen Wacker, writer G. Willow Wilson, and artists Adrian Alphona and Jamie McKelvie, Kamala Khan debuted in Captain Marvel #14 before becoming the lead character in the solo Ms. Marvel comic series. Kamala Khan became Marvel’s first Muslim character to headline her own comic series and the first issue of Ms. Marvel won the 2015 Hugo Award for Best Graphic Story.

In addition to the Ms. Marvel series, Marvel Studios’ line-up of projects for Disney Plus includes The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, WandaVision, Loki, Hawkeye, and an animated What If? show.

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier is currently set to be first of these Marvel Studios series’ to debut on Disney Plus. Set after the events of Avengers: Endgame, the series is rumored to center on Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes as the former finds himself facing resistance from the United States government and its opposition to him taking on the Captain America mantle.
