‘The Mummy’: Sofia Boutella Offers New Details On Princess Ahmanet

The Mummy herself, Sofia Boutella has revealed new details regarding Princess Ahmanet’s past and how exactly she came to be the evil monster we see in the trailers for the upcoming reboot from director Alex Kurtzman that will serve to kick off Universal’s shared universe full of monsters based on the the classic monster films produced by the studio.

Last week we learned that Ahmanet’s father failed to deliver on his promise to make her pharaoh after he sired a son. As part of Entertainment Weekly’s summer movie preview, Boutella also explained to the magazine that her father’s deception is what led her to summon a great evil:

“I’m an Egyptian princess who is promised to become Pharaoh, and is deceived by her father. He removes that promise from her because he has a child, and the child is a son. Having nothing to lose, she summons the wrong god, in order to get what she wanted, that power that will give her what she was promised. She’s put aside for a very long time because she became dangerous. In modern times, she comes back, to go after what she was promised to receive, to begin with.”

The film stars Tom Cruise, Sofia Boutella, Jake Johnson, Annabelle Wallis, Courtney B. Vance and Russell Crowe. Here is the official synopsis:

“Thought safely entombed in a tomb deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient princess whose destiny was unjustly taken from her is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension. From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, The Mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters.”
