‘The Mummy’ Earns $2.66 Million In Thursday Night Previews

The Mummy has arrived in theaters today and will kick off Universal Pictures’ developing Dark Universe of gods and monsters. Now, Deadline reports that The Mummy earned a total of $2.66 million in Thursday night previews.

Amid negative reviews, some tracking services estimate that the films opening weekend gross could reach as low as $32 million, which would not be a good start for the first in a planned series of films in the Dark Universe.

Meanwhile, Wonder Woman‘s box office success continued on Thursday night, adding approximately $9.2 million to its domestic gross and down only 2% from Wednesday’s earnings. With a domestic total of $147.8 million, if Wonder Woman earns the estimated $52.2-$60 million in it’s second weekend, the film will pass $200 million at the domestic box office if these projections prove to be correct.

Thought safely entombed in a tomb deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient princess whose destiny was unjustly taken from her is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension. From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, The Mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters.

Directed by Alex Kurtzman, the film stars Tom Cruise, Sofia Boutella, Annabelle Wallis, Jake Johnson, Courtney B. Vance, and Russell Crowe.
