Natalie Portman joined the Star Wars universe in the film Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. The film has had a very controversial lifespan, though many fans in recent years have started to warm up to the first Star Wars prequel, which spawned two sequels.
At the time, a 16-year-old Natalie Portman took on the challenge to bring to life a character that was only subtly referred to in the original Star Wars trilogy. Natalie Portman signed on to play Padmé Amidala, the future mother of Luke and Leia in the epic Star Wars franchise.
During a recent interview with Empire, Natalie Portman expressed how hard it was to be that young and having to deal with such harsh criticism.
“It was a bummer because it felt like people were so excited about new ones and then to have people feel disappointed. Also to be at an age that I didn’t really understand that’s kind of the nature of the beast. When something has that much anticipation it can almost only disappoint.”
Natalie Portman played her character in all three of the films. The Star Wars prequels now have a loyal following and hardcore defenders of the trilogy, which Natalie Portman mentions in her interview. Check out what Natalie Portman had to say about the trilogy’s legacy below.
“There’s a very avid group of people who think they’re the best ones now! I don’t have enough perspective to weigh in.”
