Neill Blomkamp has shared more concept art of his planned Aliens movie. Could he be making a move to try to get the film made under Disney's management?
Blomkamp released two more images from the vault through his Instagram page — one showing the Xenomorph playing peek-a-boo in a chute (to the unpleasant surprise of a Colonial Marine), while the other revealed a new-and-improved dropship:
With Alien: Covenant barely breaking even and reports suggesting that Scott’s planned sequel to that film has been indefinitely delayed as a result of the Disney buyout, the future of the Alien prequel series is definitely up in the air. Meanwhile, the film division of Twentieth Century Fox is soon to be under new management once the landmark deal with Disney inevitably goes through. Based on these circumstances, it’s entirely possible that Blomkamp is trying to drum up enough support for his planned concept — which fans seemed more willing to embrace than they were with a Prometheus sequel — in order to get his movie made. Disney’s CEO has stated that he’s up for making R-rated movies with Fox’s resources, so there might just be hope for a proper conclusion to Ellen Ripley’s story arc yet, complete with all the gory details.
Alien: Covenant is available on home video and streaming. The movie’s cast includes Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston, Billy Crudup, Guy Pearce, Danny McBride, Demián Bichir, Carmen Ejogo, Amy Seimetz, Jussie Smollett, Callie Hernandez, Nathaniel Dean, Alexander England, Benjamin Rigby, and James Franco.
