Netflix CEO ‘Not Afraid’ Of Disney’s New Streaming Service

Netflix CEO Reed Hastings discusses the looming threat of Disney's new streaming service and how that will potentially affect Netflix moving forward.

Netflix has been leading the way for digital streaming over the course of the last few years, even with Hulu and Amazon Prime threatening to take the top spot with original content of their own. With Disney now poised to launch their own streaming service in 2019, the execs over at Netflix are still confident that they can stay at the top even with the additional competition.

Netflix CEO Reed Hastings directly addressed Disney’s new streaming service during the company’s Q4 earnings call, telling investors:

“We don’t see it as a threat to us any more than Hulu has been.”

Despite the company’s confident stance, Hastings did offer his compliments to the competitors over at Disney, claiming that he expects them to be “very successful” and even admitted that “I know I’ll be a subscriber of it.”

Once Disney launches their service in 2019, the vast majority of Disney titles still on Netflix will be pulled. However, Hastings believes that Netflix will be able to thrive without the Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars titles:

“It’s great content, but we are able to grow without it just fine.”

Will you be subscribing to Disney’s streaming service when it finally launches? Does it pose a significant threat to the overall success of Netflix? Let us know what you think in the comments section!
