Netflix Officially Developing Live-Action ‘Assassin’s Creed’ Series

The streaming service is working on another video game adaptation.

Netflix has announced it is working with Ubisoft to create a live-action Assassin’s Creed series based on the popular video game series.

Assassin’s Creed fans will be treated to a live-action series from Netflix and Ubisoft at some point in the near future and it’s described as an “epic, genre-bending, live-action adaptation.” The news arrived from Entertainment Weekly and the outlet also revealed that the “first series” is currently looking for a showrunner to helm the series. Although the streaming service also confirmed that the studio behind the incredible franchise, Ubisoft, will be involved in its production as Jason Altman and Danielle Kreinik join the project as Executive Producers.

The series has gripped players across the world since its debut back in 2007 and the latest title, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, is set to arrive in November this year. Of course this isn’t the first time audiences have seen Assassin’s Creed in live-action, as Michael Fassbender starred in an underwhelming movie back in 2016 which wasn’t well received by fans or critics. The series will be another video game adaptation the streaming service adds to its roster, as filming is currently underway on The Witcher season two and it also prepares to work on a Resident Evil show. Peter Friedlander, Vice-President of Original Series at Netflix explained that the service is excited to bringing the series to life for fans of the games, noting the expansive worlds the franchise explores.

“From its breathtaking historical worlds and massive global appeal as one of the best selling video game franchises of all time, we are committed to carefully crafting epic and thrilling entertainment based on this distinct [intellectual property] and provide a deeper dive for fans and our members around the world to enjoy.”
