New ‘Detective Pikachu’ Posters Focus On Titular Pokémon

A new set of posters have been released for the upcoming live-action adaptation of Pokemon: Detective Pikachu, which stars Ryan Reynolds as the titular character, alongside Justice Smith as his human partner Tim Goodman.

As we can see from the film’s Instagram these posters (seen below) are quite creative. The first shows the silhouettes of Detective Pikachu and Tim running along a path shaped like Pikachu’s tail, while the second features a silhouetted Pikachu (magnifying glass and hat in check) against the moonlight. The third and arguably the most eye-catching of these posters is a chalk-like sketch of Pikachu tipping his deerstalker over his eyes (seemingly as a *tip-of-the-hat* to Pokemon protagonist Ash Ketchum, who did a similar pose in the anime) surrounded by missing Pokemon posters: one for a Squirtle and one for what looks to be a Jigglypuff:

It will certainly be interesting seeing the Pokemon world come to life on-screen, but these posters are leaning in the right direction, going off the nostalgia that many people have for the series. Here’s hoping the film delivers upon its release.

What do you think of these posters? Are you excited for Pokemon: Detective Pikachu? Leave your thoughts in the comments!

Here is a synopsis for the upcoming film:

A young man joins forces with Detective Pikachu to unravel the mystery behind his father’s disappearance. Chasing clues through the streets of Ryme City, the dynamic duo soon discover a devious plot that poses a threat to the Pokémon universe.

Directed by Rob Letterman, Pokémon: Detective Pikachu stars Ryan Reynolds, Justice Smith, Paul Kitson, Kathryn Newton, Ken Watanabe, Karan Soni, Bill Nighy, Suki Waterhouse, Chris Geere, Rita Ora, and Omar Chaparro. Be sure to catch ’em all when the film hits theaters on May 10, 2019.
