According to The Hollywood Reporter, the upcoming G.I. Joe film is still in early development. At this point, the upcoming film from Paramount and Hasbro will not be centered around Chuckles and is currently being described as an ensemble piece. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle and Mission: Impossible: Ghost Protocol writers Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec are currently penning the script.
Chuckles is easily one of G.I. Joe‘s lesser-known characters. First introduced in G.I. Joe #60, the character is described as an undercover specialist. In most of the comic series he appears in, however, Chuckles often meets a grim and tragic end.
Chuckles has noticeably been absent from most adaptations of G.I. Joe. He only appeared in one episode of the original G.I. Joe animated series and has not appeared in any other. Chuckles was also absent from Paramount’s two live-action adaptations of G.I. Joe.
In addition to the upcoming Chuckles film, Paramount and Hasbro have a number of G.I. Joe films in development. A sequel to the 2013 film, G.I. Joe: Retaliation is currently in development. At the moment, however, Paramount and Hasbro have been putting most of its efforts into the Snake Eyes solo film. Directed by Robert Schwentke, the film is currently set to be released on October 16th of 2020.
