‘New Gods’ Director Ava DuVernay Boycotts Super Bowl Over NFL’s ‘Racist Treatment Of Colin Kaepernick’

All season long, football fans have been counting down to this day. The beer is cold, wings are hot and the living room is packed with friends and family waiting for the kick off of Super Bowl LIII. Almost every American will be tuning in to watch the best of the best athletes battling it out for supremacy. Everyone except New Gods Director Ava DuVernay who has announced her protest for this year’s gladiator event via Twitter.

You can read DuVernay’s enlightening comments on her protest below.

One less spectator, viewer or supporter might not sound like much compared to the millions, but it’s a start. Just like it started with one Colin Kaepernick and then extended to others in unified protest.

DuVernay and Kaepernick have been supporters of some like causes for some time. Since Kaepernick refused to stand for the National Anthem during football games he has since been cast out of the NFL and has a pending lawsuit against the National Football League.

DuVernay’s tweet also got a response out of Wild N Out star Nick Cannon who also took to Twitter to show his support of Kaepernick. Read about Cannon’s supportive tweet below.

The NFL’s treatment of Colin Kaepernick is one of the reasons for her protest, but it’s also the treatment or lack thereof the Nation Football Leagues players’ health and well being. She believes that participating in the event in any way would compromise her beliefs.

What do you think about Ava DuVernay’s protest? Do you support her decision? Let us know in the comments below!

Directed by Ava DuVernay with a script from Kario Salem, New Gods does not yet have a release date. We’ll be sure to keep you updated on all news regarding New Gods as soon as more information becomes available.
