‘New Mutants’ Comic Has Maisie Williams ‘Game Of Thrones’ Easter Egg

It may be a while away from Fox’s long-delayed The New Mutants, but a new comic features a Game of Thrones Easter egg tying the character of Wolfsbane to her live-action actress Maisie Williams

ComicBook.com has found out that the recently-released New Mutants comic (written by Chris Claremont and illustrated by Bill Sienkiewicz) has an allusion to Game of Thrones, the most famous show that Maisie Williams has been involved with, along with her forthcoming X-Men role as Wolfsbane.

In one scene, a number of characters are shown sleeping. Wolfsbane is seen dreaming with a copy of A Game of Thrones on her chest; the book itself is the first novel in George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series, and it served as the basis for the first season of HBO’s Game of Thrones, which Maisie Williams appeared in. There are no references to Arya Stark, Maisie Williams’ character, but there’s still another reference to the show with a poster of the Iron Throne, the title throne that “the Game of Thrones” is based around, in Sunspot’s room.

Maisie Williams has been quiet about The New Mutants, aside from expressing frustration over the delays, given that it was filmed between the last two seasons of Game of Thrones and is set to release after the final season aired. In the meantime, The New Mutants: War Children is on sale at a comic store near you.

Directed by Josh Boone from a script co-written by Knate Lee, The New Mutants stars Anya Taylor-Joy as Illyana Rasputin / Magik, Maisie Williams as Rahne Sinclair / Wolfsbane, Charlie Heaton as Sam Guthrie / Cannonball, Henry Zaga as Roberto da Costa / Sunspot, Blu Hunt as Danielle Moonstar / Mirage, and Alice Braga as Cecilia Reyes. Here’s the synopsis:

“Held in a secret facility against their will, five new mutants have to battle the dangers of their powers, as well as the sins of their past. They aren’t out to save the world — they’re just trying to save themselves.”

The New Mutants opens on April 3rd, 2020. Stay tuned for the latest news on The New Mutants and the future of the X-Men franchise!
