‘The New Mutants’ Reportedly Pushed Back Again

UPDATE: Heroic Hollywood has confirmed that this information is incorrect and that the release date of The New Mutants is still August 2, 2019.

FOX’s upcoming film The New Mutants seemed to have the makings of an exciting new film in the current comic book movie renaissance. The film was teased to have a horror bent to it – something rarely seen in the genre, and its promising cast of young stars also got fans pretty curious about the project.

Unfortunately, there has been much drama behind New Mutants as a result of multiple release date delays and reshoots that looked to overhaul much of the film. In fact, X-Men producer Laura Schuler Donner remains skeptical about whether the film will still receive a theatrical release.

Interestingly enough, it looks like the release date has shifted once again. During Hasbro’s panel at Toy Fair, a graphic was shown for New Mutants along with an odd new release date: Monday September 2, 2019.

At this time, no official confirmation has been made by FOX about the current release date for New Mutants. It is possible that the release date listed with the graphic at the Hasbro panel was a typo.

In the meantime, Dark Phoenix and New Mutants remain a massive mystery to fans of the franchise now that the FOX/Disney merger draws near. It’s only a matter of time before audiences get a chance to see how the franchise that kicked off in 2000 is sent off before the mutants are implemented into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

New Mutants is not the only Marvel franchise that’s in a weird limbo. The X-MenFantastic FourDeadpool, X-ForceGambit, the Marvel licensed Netflix series like DaredevilIron Fist, and Luke Cage, are all on hold until the FOX/Disney merger happens. Even the MCU is waiting for what happens in that deal so Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios can finally include those shared characters in that universe officially.

Directed by Josh Boone from a script co-written by Knate Lee, The New Mutants stars Anya Taylor-Joy as Illyana Rasputin / Magik, Maisie Williams as Rahne Sinclair / Wolfsbane, Charlie Heaton as Sam Guthrie / Cannonball, Henry Zaga as Roberto da Costa / Sunspot, Blu Hunt as Danielle Moonstar / Mirage, and Alice Braga as Cecilia Reyes.

Held in a secret facility against their will, five new mutants have to battle the dangers of their powers, as well as the sins of their past. They aren’t out to save the world — they’re just trying to save themselves.

The New Mutants is scheduled to be released sometime this year.
