New ‘Star Wars’ Film In Development With ‘Sleight’ Director

A new Star Wars film from the director of Sleight is in development at Lucasfilm and Disney.

The current state of Lucasfilm has left many wondering what is next for the Star Wars franchise. Many directors left the franchise on what could be seen as bad terms with others seemingly leaving the company for better opportunities elsewhere. In fact, the only upcoming films that Lucasfilm seems dedicated to developing are Rian Johnson’s upcoming Star Wars films and even the future of these films are constantly in question. However, it seems that Lucasfilm has at least one more project in development.

According to a new report from The Hollywood Reporter, a new Star Wars film is currently in development from Sleight director J.D. Dillard and Luke Cage writer Matt Ownes. Sleight was an independently produced, low budget science fiction thriller that focused around a magician who is forced into a life of crime after his parents died. But now it seems that the people at Lucasfilm want to take the up-and-coming director of Sleight and give him a larger project to work on.

Unfortunately, there is very little known about the upcoming Star Wars project. It is unclear if the Sleight director will be helming the project or has simply been tapped to help develop it.  In addition, it is also unknown if the upcoming Star Wars project will be a theatrical release or released on Disney+. The upcoming project from the Sleight director, however, apparently has nothing to do with Rian Johnson’s upcoming Star Wars films, nor the project that Marvel Producer Keven Feige is working on.
